Tickled Pink Quilt Raffle
In October a wonderful group of women gathered for our 10th annual Tickled Pink event stitching all night to raise awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds to support local programs through the American Cancer Society, Pink Lemonade and Pink Heals, Solano. Quilters helped stitch blocks for our raffle quilt, Bubbles, that was designed by Marcia Harmening of Happy Stash Quilts. Bubbles will soon be on display in our store and on our website. Raffle tickets are available for purchase for the opportunity to win this special quilt. The proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Vacaville event. Tickets are being sold for $5 each or 5 for $20. The drawing for the raffle will be on June 25th at A Quilted Heart.

Quilt Backing Sale
For each month that gives you an extra Saturday we are giving you extra savings! Bring in all of our completed quilt tops and get a whopping savings of 25% off of your backing fabric. It’s that simple! We look forward to seeing you on June 30th with your next bundle of quilt tops.

Gift Certificates
We love helping our customers spend their gift certificates that they have received as gifts! A Quilted Heart gift cards can be used to purchase fabric, books, patterns and notions from us. You can even use them to purchase class supplies, although class fees cannot be paid for with a gift card. Class fees are used to pay the teacher and offset the cost of the classroom. Thanks for your understanding and enjoy spending your gift certificates on some of our wonderful products!

Row by Row Experience
Are you beginning to make your summer travel plans? Consider including quilt shop visits and participate in this year’s Row by Row Experience. Shops all over the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and beyond are gearing up for this year’s event that follows the theme, Sew Musical. This year shops will be mixing things up a bit with their rows by implementing new shape options and dimensions. From June 21 through September 4, simply visit any participating shop and receive a free pattern for your Sew Musical quilt. Combine your various row shapes for a truly unique quilt that highlights your travels and favorite quilt shops. Travel with friends, discover new quilt shops and have fun collecting new row shapes! Create a quilt using at least 8 different rows and be the first to bring it into a participating shop to win a stack of 25 fat quarters! Do your travel plans extend into September and October? Don’t fret, Row by Row is allowing shops to continue to sell patterns and kits in store only during the hibernation period from Sept. 5 through October 31. After October 31 shops will once again be able to complete mail order requests.

In addition to the free pattern, we will have kits available for purchase to make our exclusive row shape in the Sew Musical theme. We are also selling bolts of the Sew Musical themed fabric by Timeless Treasures.

A Note from the Heart

“The sky is falling!” proclaims Chicken Little.

Sometimes it can feel that way when all that seems right in our world makes a shift. Recently there have been a few shake-ups in the quilting industry that have made a few quilters a bit nervous. Whenever a quilt shop closes there is concern that quilting is on a decline. We often receive phone calls to “just check that you are still open” or customers coming in to the shop and asking if we plan on going anywhere. As many of you know I am dedicated to A Quilted Heart and offering a place for quilter’s to gather and have no plans to retire or close for many years!

Last month Coats Corportation (think threads) announced that they were exiting the fabric business which included the brands Westminster and FreeSpirit. There was a collective gasp of wondering what would happen with some of our favorite fabric designers; Kaffe Fassett, Tula Pink, and Anna Maria Horner to name a few. A week later Clothworks announced that they were partnering with Tanya Whelan to carry her designs. Then a week later Jaftex Corp. announced their intent to purchase FreeSpirit fabrics. Jaftex is a 4th generation family owned business that currently includes Henry Glass, Studio e and Blank fabrics. They are excited to bring FreeSprirt into their family and continue to provide the bold, vibrant prints that the FreeSpirit designers are known for. So now we can breathe again knowing that we will be able to purchase and sell some of our favorite FreeSpirit fabrics! Just this week Northcott announced that they are launching a new subdivision of fabrics, Figo, which will offer modern and contemporary designs.

One of my favorite sayings is, “when one door closes, another one opens”. We often look at the world through a peephole but it is important to keep a bigger picture perspective, in life and in the world of quilting.

Quilting is a 3.7 billion dollar industry. It is normal for any industry to go through shifts and changes but quilter’s are not going away! In the past 5 years I have seen a surge of interest in sewing and quilting amongst tweens. Younger adult quilters are continuing to make their imprint on the quilting and sewing industry as witnessed by the Modern Quilting movement. So, we won’t become alarmed when we see changes locally and within the industry. We at A Quilted Heart are committed to moving forward and providing beautiful new fabrics and a friendly place to gather for our quilting community.
